Gold at the European Youth Olympic Festival

Switzerland, with Jan Daron and Dennis Van Gessel from Zug, won gold at the EYOF in Georgia.

On the last day of the EYOF in Georgia, Switzerland won the final in Tbilisi against Slovakia and deserved to win the tournament thanks to three strong performances in a row.

After the opening 2:4 defeat against the Czech Republic, Head Coach Patrick Schöb’s team showed a strong reaction and won against both Austria (12:4) and Ukraine (6:1). In the final on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2025, they then faced the Slovaks in the big showdown for gold. Switzerland turned around a 0:1 deficit after the first period and were 2:1 ahead at the second break. Although the Slovaks were able to equalize again, the Swiss kept their cool and deservedly won 5:2 in the end – also thanks to two empty-net goals. Switzerland thus successfully defended their title.

The two Zug U17 elite juniors Jan Daron and Dennis Van Gessel were also part of the team. Two years ago, EVZ players Robin Antenen, Mischa Geisser, Christian Kirsch, Leon Muggli, Nils Wehrli and Loris Wey won gold with the U17 national team.

We congratulate the U17s wholeheartedly on this achievement and on winning the gold medal at the EYOFs 2025!
