The 49-year-old is no stranger to the EVZ: as an active professional player, Frédéric Rothen wore the Zug kit from 2001 to 2004 and played a total of 720 games in the NLA with the EVZ, Kloten, Davos and Ajoie. He has been working as an ice hockey and athletics coach since 2010, most recently as Head Coach at EHC Winterthur in the Swiss League.
With his extensive experience as a player and coach, Rothen brings valuable skills to his new role in “The Hockey Academy” training program. Born in the canton of Jura, he will continue to develop the players of the U21 and U18 Elite teams as Development Coach and will also support the Head Coaches Reto Suri and Sven Lindemann as Assistant Coach.
The EVZ hires Frédéric Rothen as Assistant and Development Coach for the training program “The Hockey Academy”.
HOLISTIC TRAINING WORK
Frédéric Rothen will join Head of Development Ted Suihkonen, Head Coaches Reto Suri and Sven Lindemann, Goalie Coach Marco Mathis and Athletic Coach Enea Moretti to form the Hockey Academy’s coaching staff from May 1. This means that all coaches will be employed full-time by EVZ from the coming season.
Three to four coaches will ensure optimal training conditions and individual training work with the players in the ice training sessions of the competitive sports teams. While the head coach focuses on the upcoming games in the short and medium term, the two development coaches Suihkonen and Rothen are responsible for the long-term development of the athletes and coaches.
