The EVZ also won the third and final playoff game without discussion with 22:0. The Zug women are thus crowned SWHL B champions and will face HC Lugano Ladies or SC Langenthal Ladies in the league qualifiers on Wednesday, March 20. These two teams will duel in the Ranking Round for 3rd place, which is synonymous with remaining in the PostFinance Women’s League, while the fourth-placed team faces relegation.
Regardless of the name of their opponent next week, EVZ’s goal is clear: promotion to the top Swiss women’s league! This could already be a fact on Saturday, March 23rd at the home game, as the league qualification will be played in a best-of-3 series. The motto for the 2nd league qualifier is “Break the record” – the record of 1452 spectators in the BOSSARD Arena set on Wednesday is to be broken again! “The fans have created an incredible atmosphere throughout the season – at home and away,” says forward Noemi Ryhner, thanking all the spectators. “The crowd at today’s game in particular was fantastic! We can feel the support from all sides, it’s incomparable.”
In front of a magnificent crowd of 1,452 spectators, the Zug team won the championship title.
A SEASON OF SUPERLATIVES
A season of records is drawing to a close for the Zug team. They scored 317 goals in the regular season, conceded just seven and secured the maximum points total of 54. In the playoffs, they seamlessly continued these performances: 128 more goals and 2 goals against in seven games. Lara Stalder was also the most prolific points scorer in the playoffs. The captain of the women’s team scored 28 goals and provided just as many assists (regular season: 63 goals, 66 assists).
“These figures are impressive, of course, but they are of secondary importance to us,” says Head Coach Daniela Diaz. “For us, the focus is on the team’s process. And I’m incredibly proud of how the players have developed individually and as a team in recent months. The Women & Girls program was launched in January 2023, we trained together for the first time on 8 May and now we’ve won the Swiss championship title in the SWHL B!” But the highlight is yet to come: “Our big goal right from the start was direct promotion to the PostFinance Women’s League.”
