Heading to Budapest with confidence

The EVZ Women’s Team is about to enter the group stage of the EWHL Euro Cup. Their first opponent will be SKN Sabres St. Pölten on Saturday.

One week before the start of the PostFinance Women’s League, the first competitive games await the EVZ Women’s Team. The team will face SKN Sabres St. Pölten in the group stage of the EWHL Euro Cup in Budapest on Saturday at 12:30 pm. The following day, they will face Hokiklub Budapest or HK PSRZ Bratislava. While Zug – with the exception of USA returnee Rahel Enzler and new signing Noemi Neubauerová – will be unchanged from the previous season, the Austrians have made numerous changes. EVZ defenders Annika Fazokas and Leonie Kutzer know most of the players from the Austrian national team.

“I’m really looking forward to the reunion,” says Annika Fazokas. It’s been a while since they last met. That’s because she and Leonie Kutzer – after consultation with the association – decided to forgo the camp with the national team at the end of August in order to prepare with the EVZ. What can we expect from SKN Sabres St. Pölten? “They have a good mix of young and experienced players in the team. It won’t be an easy task,” says Annika Fazokas.

The main rehearsal for the European Cup went promisingly for the EVZ: last Saturday they won an intense game against the title holders Memmingen 5:2. The Zug goals were scored by Lara Stalder (2), Naemi Herzig, Lena-Marie Lutz and Annic Büchi. A year ago, the team qualified for the final tournament of the EWHL Super Cup. They ultimately won bronze in their home rink. If the EVZ makes it through the group stages again this year, the decision will once again be made in Zug: on October 19 and 20.
