With two wins in the PostFinance Women’s League last weekend, the Zug team gained confidence for the first milestone of the season: the final tournament in the European Cup, which has been called the EWHL Euro Cup since this season. The EVZ is hosting this event at the BOSSARD Arena for the second time in a row. Zug will face MAC Budapest in the semi-final on Saturday at 4.30 pm. The team emerged from Lombardi Formula HC, the first Hungarian women’s ice hockey champion in 1994, which was taken over in 2017. MAC Budapest currently occupies fourth place in the European Women’s Hockey League behind the teams of EVB Eagles South Tyrol, Aisulu Almaty and Sabres St. Pölten. Noteworthy: Hungary’s record international player Alexandra Rónai and record goal scorer Alexandra Huszák both play for MAC Budapest.
The final tournament of the EWHL Euro Cup is scheduled for next weekend in the BOSSARD Arena at home.
HOME AUDIENCE – THE KEY TO SUCCESS
In the championship, MAC Budapest has an average attendance of 75 fans, while Zug has over ten times more (817). The support of the loyal crowd could prove to be the key to success. Head coach Daniela Diaz and her team have a clear objective for the weekend: to win their first title of the season.

The other semi-final on Saturday will be contested by defending champions ECDC Memmingen and Hokiklub Budapest (starting at 1 pm). These teams only met twice last weekend in the German Women’s Ice Hockey League, of which Budapest is a new member. Each resulted in a 3:1 victory. The semi-final matches in the EWHL Euro Cup are a repeat of last year’s. Back then, the EVZ lost 3-2 after overtime against MAC Budapest before winning bronze against the second team from the Hungarian capital.
Sunday in the BOSSARD Arena begins with the match for third place (from 1 p.m.), before the tournament victory is decided (from 4.30 p.m.). Admission to all matches is free.
