The duel promised to be explosive in advance: In the PFWL championship, the EVZ won 6:0 at home in the BOSSARD Arena and 5:2 away against Zurich in October, but lost 2:0 in the Swiss Life Arena at the end of November. In the Cup round of 16, the motto for both teams was “do or die” – only a win counts.
The Women’s Team wins against the ZSC Lions Women after overtime and advances to the quarterfinals.
The two teams got off to a furious start on Wednesday: Alina Marti put the visitors in front after just 2 minutes and 40 seconds, while Lara Stalder equalized for EVZ 99 seconds later. In the middle third, Daniela Diaz’s team made the score 4:1 – “a dangerous score”, as goal scorer Noemi Ryhner said after the game. “We gave them far too much space and they exploited every counter-attack with ice-cold precision”. As a result, the score was 4:4 after 60 minutes and the round of 16 had to be decided in overtime.
After 52 seconds of overtime, Lara Stalder secured the quarter-final qualification for EVZ from an acute angle. Who the Zug team will face in January will be decided next week in the Cup draw.
