14,051 spectators attended the 14 home games of the EVZ Women’s Team in the regular season of the PostFinance Women’s League. That’s an average of over 1,000 fans per game. Compared to the previous year, this is more than double the number of spectators – an average of 485 spectators came to the BOSSARD Arena in the SWHL B Championship qualifiers and 610 in the playoffs.
This increase is not only due to the exciting and balanced games in the top division, the PostFinance Women’s League. The strategy of offering family-friendly home games and themed games with a varied supporting program such as the Christmas Game, Ladies Nights or Family Games with additional activities for families and children has also proven to be very successful. “EVZ deliberately invests a lot in the matchday experience to offer spectators an unforgettable event,” explains Ibi Can, Head of Marketing & Sales. “In this way, we hope to build a loyal audience and attract returning fans.”
Two rounds before the end of qualifying, the EVZ is confirmed as a playoff semi-finalist. Not only are things going well in sporting terms, the regular season’s attendance figures are also record-breaking.

A special highlight was the Family Game with the cuddly toy fundraiser on November 17 against the HCD Ladies, where 2,163 spectators cheered on the women’s team and set a new attendance record. This record has since been surpassed by Fribourg with 3037 spectators – “Which makes us very happy and underlines the positive development of women’s ice hockey in Switzerland!”
The patrons’ club of the Women & Girls program “L!ne Up 2023” has also developed very positively and now has over 150 members. “The club is very important and very active, with many members regularly attending home games and acting as ambassadors for the program. The club has now also initiated a small standing-room-only section and supports the women’s team with drums and fan chants. Not only at home matches, but also sometimes away,” says Ibi Can, who is delighted with the loyal support.
This development would not be possible without the support of numerous partners, sponsors, patrons and a great audience. “They all deserve our utmost respect, because they show that Zug is a field hockey city – not just for men and boys, but also for women and girls.”

The EVZ Women’s Team is now entering the hot phase of the season – after the last two qualifying games next weekend against Fribourg and Langenthal, the playoffs start on Saturday, March 8. For the Zug team, the semi-final home game kicks off right away. The opponents are still open and will be decided in the play-in games between HC Davos Ladies, HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls, ZSC Lions Women and HC Fribourg-Gottéron.
