One goal from 67 shots on goal: these are the statistics from EVZ’s point of view after two games in the playoff final against SC Bern. It’s not surprising that this disparity resulted in two defeats (0:3, 1:6). However, the large number of shots on goal – plus numerous shots that missed the net – also shows that Zug were not inferior to Bern. In the second game in particular, they had longer periods of pressure, although only one of these ended successfully. Ivana Wey scored the interim 1:3 in double overtime after a clever pass from Rahel Enzler. After the game, the latter also mentioned the lack of efficiency in finishing as the biggest obstacle on the way to success. On a positive note, the Zug team did not allow itself to be rattled despite the numerous unused opportunities. They followed the instructions of head coach Daniela Diaz to rely on the game plan and patience. EVZ forward Naemi Herzig, who already has two Swiss championship titles in her palmarès, summed up the required attitude during the second game on Sunday in simple terms: “We have to keep at it.”
The players had the opportunity to clear their heads and sharpen their concentration for Thursday’s third game in Berne (7.30 pm, PostFinance Arena). On Tuesday and Wednesday, the team will work on the final details. SC Bern could celebrate its first Swiss championship title in women’s field hockey with a win. Last year, it was defeated by the ZSC Lions in the play-off final. In the spring of 2023, its predecessor club Bomo Thun, which already included numerous players from the current Bern squad, led 2:1 in the final against the ZSC Lions, but ultimately lost. EVZ will do everything in its power to secure its first win in the series on Thursday and return to the BOSSARD Arena on Saturday for the fourth match in front of its loyal and numerous fans.
