EVZ wins women’s label

EVZ is the winner of the women’s label for the 2024/25 season.

The EVZ was awarded the women’s label at the PostFinance Women’s League Assembly. The Women’s Label aims to further professionalize the two highest Swiss women’s leagues – PFWL and SWHL B. The areas of sport, education, marketing, recruitment and structure are evaluated.

In January 2023, the EVZ set itself an ambitious goal: To get girls and women interested in ice hockey and offer them real equal opportunities. The whole thing is not running as a separate project, but is fully integrated into the club. With the vision “DO IT RIGHT OR NOT AT ALL”, the EVZ wants to set new standards – and inspire others to also get involved in women’s sport. After all, this is no longer a charity project, but a global growth market.

The EVZ has set itself the goal of specifically promoting girls and establishing women’s ice hockey as a competitive sport in Switzerland. In the 2023/24 season, not only did the 1st team start in the second-highest league, but a hockey school for girls only was also launched. This lays the foundation for the Women & Girls program: It’s not just about a team at semi-professional level, but about promoting girls’ ice hockey across all age groups.

CEO Patrick Lengwiler puts it in a nutshell: “As a professional club, we have done little to nothing in recent years to promote girls and women in ice hockey. We want to change that: We have set ourselves an ambitious program that will get many more girls into ice hockey and also aim to promote girls and women on an equal footing. We want to be the beacon of Central Switzerland and also set an example among the professional clubs in Switzerland within a few years.
