Zug wants to win second Winter Classic

The women’s team will face SC Bern on December 30 at the open-air ice rink in Gstaad (starting at 5:30 p.m.).

For the second time, the Winter Classic will feature Bern and Zug. The first edition last January was won by Zug 3-1. Lara Stalder scored twice and Noemi Ryhner added another goal in front of 412 fans in the winter wonderland of Gstaad. EVZ goalie Chiara Pfosi remembers it vividly: “It was a cool experience – literally, because it was very cold,” she says with a laugh. The Zug women have won their last eight games in a row. Their last defeat came in mid-November – against the Bernese (1-2 after overtime). EVZ won the first two encounters of the current season (7-0 and 4-2).

Rivalry Zug – Bern

The match between Zug and Bern can already be described as a classic in current Swiss women’s ice hockey. Chiara Pfosi agrees: “Looking back at the 2024 Cup Final and last spring’s playoff final, a rivalry has developed. We really enjoy playing against this team, but you can never underestimate the Bernese. They have won their games in recent weeks and gained confidence as a result.” Bern is also in strong form with six wins in a row and is currently third in the table. This upward trend is also reflected in Estelle Duvin’s scoring statistics. The SCB top scorer has scored at least one goal in each of the last five games and has 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) after 20 games. For Zug, Lara Stalder currently leads the team’s internal battle for the league’s top scorer against Rahel Enzler, with 42 points to 38.

Admission to the Winter Classic in Gstaad is free, as is the livestream of the Winter Classic from RED+ and on blick.ch.
