22 wins in 24 games: EVZ is in a class of its own in the PostFinance Women’s League. With four games to go, they are the winners of the regular season. Head coach Daniela Diaz’s team once again showed its superior side in the recent 4:1 win in Fribourg. Ivana Wey (9th minute) opened the scoring after a finish from 15-year-old Joy Roulet from partner club EHC Sursee, who was making her debut. The Zug team did not let the hosts’ equaliser (25′) rattle them and relied on their strengths. At the end of the middle third, they led 3:1 – Chiara Eggli (in the powerplay) and Rahel Enzler had scored. In the final period, Noemi Neubauerová scored the 4:1 after a dream pass from Ivana Wey.
Thanks to a 4:1 win in Fribourg, Zug have already secured first place with four games to go.
Ivana Wey was involved in three goals and also scored the 700th championship goal for the team founded in 2023. “After struggling a bit at the start of the season, things are going better now. But my own performance isn’t the main focus, it’s that I can help the team,” explains the 19-year-old international striker. Ivana Wey considers patience and mutual trust to be the key to the very successful campaign so far. “In this respect, we’ve taken another big step forward compared to last season.”
Two matches are on the programme this week at home in the OYM hall: on Thursday, the EVZ will face the ZSC Lions (7.30 pm) before travelling to HC Ambrì-Piotta on Sunday (2.30 pm). The Zurich team is flirting with fourth place in the table, while the Ticino team wants to defend second place and thus direct qualification for the semi-finals against SC Bern, who are closing in.
