Intensive program at the start of the year

Three games in nine days: EVZ will be playing away at HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies on Saturday and will be hosting ZSC Lions and HC Ambrì-Piotta next week.

The women’s team wants to pick up in the new year where it left off in the old one: with victories. The 8-2 win over SC Bern in the Winter Classic was their ninth victory in a row. On Saturday, the Zug women travel to HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies (3 p.m., BCF Arena). They lost 3-2 in Davos on Tuesday and are in fourth place in the PostFinance Women’s League table. Fribourg’s top scorer is Ann-Frédérique Guay. The Canadian is one of the league’s best assist providers with 22 assists – only Zug’s Lara Stalder (27), Ivana Wey (24), and Rahel Enzler (23) are better. It is quite possible that an EVZ player will enter the organization’s annals on Saturday: she is just one goal away from the 700th championship goal since the women’s team was founded.

Last season, the HCFG had the second-highest attendance in the league (348 on average), while this season it is still the fifth-highest (209). This is mainly due to the fact that the organization briefly held the attendance record in the 2024/25 season after more than 3,000 fans stayed in the stadium after a men’s game to watch the women’s game against SC Bern. The Zug women have held the record since the last playoffs: 4,136 fans were present for the semifinal against HC Davos Ladies. So far this season, an average of 985 people have watched the games at the OYM hall.

THE FIRST HOME GAMES IN 2026

The next opportunity will be on Thursday, January 8, against the ZSC Lions (puck drop at 5 p.m.). Just three days later, the team will once again play in front of its loyal home crowd: on Sunday, January 11, Zug will host HC Ambrì-Piotta (2:30 p.m.), and ZugerKB is offering free admission to this game. A free ticket must be obtained from the ticket shop.
