Anticipation in the Zug camp
Head coach Daniela Diaz is also hugely excited about the decisive phase: “I feel a tingling sensation, a pleasant nervousness before the final sprint. Finally, we can play again and show what we have been working hard for all these months.” Except for Vanessa Ryhner, Sinia Gubser, and Noemi Ryhner, who have been out for a long time, the team is complete. The players who remained in Zug used the Olympic break to prepare themselves optimally. This included a week focusing on off-ice training. In addition, joint training sessions were held with partner club EHC Sursee, as well as a 3vs3 tournament in the OYM hall.

Good omens against Fribourg
Playoff opponents HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies prevailed 2-1 against the ZSC Lions in the pre-playoffs on Wednesday. Daniela Diaz and the staff scouted their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses in order to prepare their team optimally. There were no big secrets to uncover, explains Daniela Diaz: “We already know Fribourg very well from the regular season games. Now it was mainly a matter of taking a closer look at the behavior of the special teams.” In the regular season, Zug won all four games against Fribourg.

But that is now in the past, because the playoffs mark the beginning of a new era. The first game will take place on Friday in Zug (puck drop at 7:30 p.m.). Despite being the favorites, the Zug women have great respect for their opponents. “We must remain patient and humble,” says Daniela Diaz. Given Fribourg’s physical style of play, EVZ will also need to be resilient. “We have made great progress in this area in particular during the current season,” noted the head coach. Daniela Diaz divided the season into different stages and intermediate goals. The next milestone is also the last: the championship title.
