Championship party at the OYM Hall!

After their 6-3 victory over SC Bern in front of 3,824 fans on Wednesday evening, it’s official: EVZ is the new champion of Swiss women’s ice hockey.

Just like in the first two final games, the Zug women laid the foundation for their success in the opening period. Ivana Wey (2 goals) and Rahel Enzler gave the Women’s Team a comfortable 3-0 lead. Wey then completed her hat trick, extending the lead to 4-0. Bern closed the gap to 4-2, but in the end, Zug secured the victory and claimed the crown after a fantastic season.

This means that the EVZ Women’s Team, newly founded in 2023, has already achieved the double in only its third season. They have marched to their first Swiss championship title with remarkable speed, a reality just 1,168 days after the plans for a women’s team within EVZ were first announced. This victory was achieved by the Zug Women’s Team in their third season.

The first championship title since the founding of the EVZ Women’s Team in 2023 is within reach.

After two decisive victories in the best-of-five final series against the defending champions from Bern, the Zug women need just one more win to clinch the title and reach their next milestone. Lara Stalder, Alina Marti, and their teammates can secure that victory on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in front of their home crowd. But there’s still a long way to go.

As they say, the last step is always the hardest. With a frenzied crowd behind them, Zug is determined to clinch the title on Wednesday. On Saturday, 4,040 fans flocked to the OYM Hall for Game 1 of the finals, creating a fantastic atmosphere. We want to give the team the same incredible energy on Wednesday.

One more win to clinch the championship!

Just over 17 hours after Saturday evening’s game in Zug, the two finalists faced off in Game 2 at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Postfinance Arena in Bern. This game, too, was a victory for Zug. Just like on Saturday, Bern couldn’t find a way through the EVZ defense. While they managed a consolation goal in Game 1, Chiara Pfosi completely shut down Zug’s net today, recording a shutout in the 4-0 win and earning the Best Player award.

Up front, her teammates took charge. Just like on Saturday, it was Noemi Neubauerová who opened the scoring, receiving a power-play pass from Alina Marti. And just like in Game 1, it was Ivana Wey who made it 2-0. The game was already firmly in EVZ’s hands after the first period, with Rahel Enzler underlining this with her goal in the 25th minute to make it 3-0. Shortly before the final buzzer, Nina Harju sealed the 4-0 victory.

There was, however, a setback. After Luisa Waser was injured on Saturday and unable to play in Game 2, Annic Büchi suffered a similar fate on Sunday, leaving her unable to finish the game after a check.

Following the two games in less than 24 hours, the players now have a three-day break. Game 3 will then take place at the OYM Hall. A win would make Head Coach Daniela Diaz’s team Swiss Champions for the first time. Secure your tickets now and grab a spot for this historic day!

The EVZ Women’s Team has taken a run for its first championship title – and how!

In Game 1 of the playoff finals, SC Bern was steamrolled 7-1. The victory was only in doubt at the very beginning. After a penalty against Noemi Neubauerová, Bern had a power play opportunity. EVZ easily held onto the penalty kill, and Neubauerová herself scored the opening goal shortly after. Six more goals from Zug followed, with the visitors’ brief 4-1 scoreline being merely cosmetic.

The victory was once again a team effort. Six different players got on the scoresheet, with Laura Fuoco scoring twice. The Canadian was subsequently named MVP. The EVZ Women’s Team’s performance was celebrated in front of a fantastic crowd of 4,040 fans – a season record.

Zug now leads the final series 1-0. The series continues tomorrow, Sunday. Game 2 kicks off at 1 p.m. in the PostFinance Arena in Bern. Game 3 will then take place on Wednesday, March 25th at the OYM Arena. It could be a historic evening for Zug in this best-of-five series.

In the three years since the EVZ Women’s Team was founded, the encounter with SC Bern has already become a classic. After the 2024 Cup Final and the 2025 Playoff Final, the two organisations will meet for the third time on Saturday in a title decider. Once again, the winners and runners-up of the regular season will play each other – but now under different circumstances. A year ago, the Bernese team finished the first phase of the championship with a one-point lead over Zug. This time, the EVZ were a full 20 points ahead of the SCB.

This should not lead to arrogance: Of their only two defeats in the regular season, Zug conceded one against Bern. The 2-1 loss was also the only home defeat of the season and the last defeat in the PostFinance Women’s League to date. Among the following 15 consecutive victories were the three in the playoff semi-final against HC Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies. The overall score of 19:5 in favour of EVZ speaks volumes.

SC Bern’s three semi-final appearances against HC Ambrì-Piotta were also impressive. The reigning champions prevailed with a total of 13:1 goals. This brings back memories of the 2025 play-off final. Back then, the Bernese won against Zug in three games: 3:0, 6:1 and 3:2 after extra time. The cup final two years ago also went to the club from the Swiss capital; they prevailed 2:1 after penalties.

Zug and Bern have faced each other in a total of twelve competitive matches to date. EVZ captain Lara Stalder has scored a total of five goals in these games, making her one of the top scorers. She also led the way in the semi-final against Fribourg and, like the whole team, emphasised: “This year we are ready for the Swiss championship title.
