In front of 1229 spectators – including a sold-out Dine & View terrace – the Zug team secured their place in the semi-finals against HC Ambrì-Piotta Girls thanks to a 5:1 victory. After a goalless 1st period, Ivana Wey opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a beautifully executed counter-attack. Seven seconds before the end of the middle third, captain Lara Stalder scored the 2:0 – it was to be the game-winner in the end.
EVZ Women’s Team wins the Gotthard derby and qualifies for the final weekend of the National Cup.
«THIS SUCCESS IS FANTASTIC»
«Something was at stake once again! It felt like we had the handbrake on in the first period, but then we got into the game better», summarized Head Coach Daniela Diaz after the game. After Fanny Rask conceded a goal in the 46th minute, Lara Stalder (51st), Naemi Herzig (57th) – who was still on duty as captain of the U18 national team at the home World Cup until last weekend – and finally Ivana Wey (60th, EN) made everything clear with her second personal goal. «We didn’t play our best field hockey and weren’t able to do what we set out to do. But the fact that we were able to win 5:1 against Ambrì, who I see as a championship contender in the PostFinance Women’s League, is fantastic. We showed character and I’m extremely proud of the players.»
CUP SEMI-FINAL ON FEBRUARY 3 IN LUCERNE
The team still has a lot of work ahead of it, says Diaz. After a double round robin in the championship this Saturday and Sunday, Zug will host ERC Ingolstadt for two friendly games in the BOSSARD Arena on January 27 and 28 as a dress rehearsal for the final tournament of the National Cup. One week later, the EVZ will fight for a place in the Cup final against Neuchâtel Hockey Academy in Lucerne on February 3 in the semi-final. The EVZ Women’s Team is looking forward to your support in Lucerne!
