New York Rangers selected Nico Gross

The EVZ-Defenseman was selected in the NHL with the 101st overall pick.

As number 101 in round 4, the Zuger was the best Swiss NHL candidate. Striker Philipp Kurashev (SC Bern, last season Québec Remparts/QMJHL) was drawn as number 120 from Chicago, goalkeeper Akira Schmid (SCL Tigers) as number 136 from New Jersey and defensmen Tim Berni (ZSC Lions) as number 159 from Columbus.

Nico Gross moved from St. Moritz to the EVZ youth department in 2014 at the age of 15 to start training in "The Hockey Academy". In the 2017/2018 season, the EVZ lent it to the Oshawa Generals (Ontario Hockey League), with whom he will probably compete next season as well. He is following in the footsteps of his EVZ defensmen colleague Tobias Geisser. Geisser was also ranked 120th in the 4th round of the NHL Draft 2017 by the Washington Capitals and has now received a three-year NHL entry contract in the organisation of the newly crowned Stanley Cup winner.

We congratulate Nico Gross and wish him continued success!
