HC Davos, the weakest team in the National League before the turn of the year, will visit Zug. The team from Graubünden has lost its last four games in 2024 in a row. Head coach Josh Holden’s team reached the semi-finals of the Spengler Cup in the week before the end of the year. Brendan Lemieux was also part of the team. The son of former EVZ reinforcement player Claude Lemieux – who played 12 games in the spring of 2004 – no longer had a future in the NHL and recently signed a contract with the Davos team until the end of the 2026/27 season. They have signed 18-year-old Laurin Solèr to his first professional contract for the same length of time. The goalie plays on the U20 Elite team, which is currently in third place in the championship – eight points behind the leaders EVZ.
On Saturday (January 4, 7:45 p.m.), the EVZ will welcome the Spengler Cup semi-finalists to the BOSSARD Arena.
For the Zug NL team, the new year has started with a disappointment: 3:5 defeat at the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers on Wednesday. The EVZ wants to correct this false start on Saturday in the second meeting with HC Davos at the BOSSARD Arena. They lost the first game 2:6 and also lost the first away match (2:3). Zug will therefore do everything in their power to secure their first win of the season against the Swiss record champions. The five U20 World Championship participants are still missing from their side. Nic Balestra, Ludvig Johnson, Leon Muggli, Robin Antenen and Loris Wey. They lost to the USA in the quarter-finals with Switzerland on Wednesday (2:7).
