The EVZ U20-Elit are Swiss champions!

After a 3-0 defeat on Saturday evening, the EVZ clinched the championship title on Sunday thanks to a 5-3 win in overtime against EHC Biel-Bienne Spirit.

After the defeat in Game 1 of the Finalissima on Saturday, Zug were also trailing 3-0 in Game 2 until the 28th minute. After 27 minutes and 55 seconds, Nik Petrovic finally scored the first and redeeming goal. Just five minutes later, Tim Muggli scored the equalizer to make it 2:3.

In the final period, it was Muggli again who equalized in the 50th minute. However, this would not have been enough to save the game going into extra time – because the points from both games count in the final. So Christian Kirsch left his box in the 59th minute to make way for a sixth outfield player. It took the Zug team just 17 seconds to exploit their numerical advantage: Mischa Geisser scored the winner 58 seconds before the final whistle.

This meant that both teams had three points each and overtime had to decide the Swiss U20 Elite Championship title. And after 4 minutes and 44 seconds, it was Tim Muggli again who was perfectly launched and with a beautiful solo against the Biel defense not only became the hat trick scorer, but above all the championship scorer!

After the titles in 1994, 2003, 2004, 2021 and 2022, this is the 6th Swiss championship title for the EVZ U20-Elit. Head coach Thomi Derungs’ team will be duly honored for their success on the ice during the playoff semi-final game on Monday evening during the 2nd intermission!
