The U18 World Championships will take place in Espoo and Vantaa (FIN) from April 25 to May 5. The Swiss U18 national team has been at a preparation camp in Sweden since Tuesday. Six Zug players are also taking part: goalie Christian Kirsch, defensemen Mischa Geisser, Ludvig Johnson and Leon Muggli as well as forwards Robin Antenen and Loris Wey. Kevin Haas and Nils Wehrli are also on the standby list.
While Leon Muggli was still in action with the EVZ 1st team in the playoff semi-final until Monday, the other Zug representatives in the national team won the Swiss championship title in the U20-Elit on Sunday and are therefore traveling to Finland with a good feeling. First, however, the U18s have two preparation games against the U19s at the stimo Arena in Kloten on Friday and Saturday. Head coach Patrick Schöb’s team will then travel to Finland on April 16 and complete the rest of their preparations in Vierumäki, an hour north of Vantaa, a suburb of Helsinki and the venue for the Swiss World Championship games.
As a dress rehearsal for the World Championships, the Swiss will play a test match against Finland (Vantaa) on April 18 and against Slovakia (Vierumäki) on April 21. On Thursday, April 25, the ice comrades start the tournament with a game against the Czech Republic.
